ABOUT THE UNITED KINGDOM

THE HISTORY: United Kingdom is probably one of the richest in history. With its sovereign state being characterized as unified as from the early 1700s having been politically united with other kingdoms of England, including Scotland, Ireland and Wales in light of a number of Unification Acts and thereby becoming the United Kingdom we know today.  The United Kingdom shared one single constitutional monarch and parliament, being at Westminster.

 

The United Kingdom mainly owes today’s wide spread effect of its industrial, political, constitutional, educational and linguistic legacy to its early Jacobite rising, the victorious outcome out of the seven years’ war, and the subsequent dominance of the British Empire, rendering the British Empire the largest empire in history. 

 

During the Second World War, the United Kingdom joined forces with US and the Soviet Union against Germany, Italy and Japan which led to the decrease of wealth for the United Kingdom.

 

 

THE CLIMATE AND TOURISM: The United Kingdom can be found at the northwestern coast of the European mainland and it includes Great Britain, northeastern part of Ireland and many additional smaller in size, islands. The United Kingdom floats within the Atlantic Ocean whilst having the North Sea at its east side and the English Channel at the south side. Great Britain and Ireland are separated by the Irish Sea. 

 

The weather of the United Kingdom has been characterized by many as a maritime climate temperate rendering warmer summers and colder winters. Whilst spring season has been noted as being calm, cool and dry season, Autumn is notorious for being unsettled consisting of cool polar air moves and subsequently producing great disturbance due to the warm air of the tropics which collides with the cool polar air moves.

 

Owed to its deep historical roots, the United Kingdom has a lot of sightseeing to offer to any visitor, ranging from castles and towers, ancient architectural monuments, temples, Museums, and much more. The United Kingdom is famous for maintaining order and respect to their monuments and historical sites, a clear illustration which can be established by any visitor. 

 

The Government is referred to as ‘Her Majesty’s Government’ or HMG for short, and it is led by the Prime Minister who is selected by the Monarch, and who in turn appoints his choice of remaining Ministers and combined constitute members of the Parliament.  Both the Ministers and the Prime Minister are subject to the Cabinet, which is the ultimate decision making body.  Primary legislation is an act solely attributed to the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Executive Authority is held to be exercised at the sole discretion of the Monarch, however upon the advice of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

TAXATION: There is no withholding tax on dividends in the United Kingdom whilst also having an impressive list of double taxation treaties with other jurisdictions in order to enhance this effect. Corporate tax rate in the United Kingdom is 23% as from April 2013, which also applies to both resident and non-resident legal entities. Dividends paid by a United Kingdom legal entity to another same jurisdiction company offer exemption form additional imposition of taxation, which also applies to any dividends paid on or after July 2009 by a domestic or overseas company to a company or branch within the charge to United Kingdom tax, provided that certain prerequisites are met.

 

The United Kingdom was described as the sixth largest economy in the world, in the World Economic League Table 2013, having a GDP of around two trillion euros. Due to United Kingdom’ vast population, it is by its self, one of the largest markets in the EU and after a vote, the United Kingdom was ranked as the 7th most easiest jurisdiction to do business in.

 

The main features of a UK company are:

  • It has at least one director and one shareholder;

  • Nominee Services are allowed;

  • It can be a company limited by shares or by guarantee; and

  • There is no requirement to have a company secretary for private limited companies.
